Who is The Mighty?
Imagine the most passionate group of people you could ever think up. Now double that—and you have the people behind The Mighty and The Mighty community. Everything we did, we did with a fire that could not be put out to help a community we couldn’t love more.
The Mighty is a website and app that makes health about people with the power of communities, support, and people who just ‘get it.’
My role in The Mighty native app
Lead kickoff with stakeholders to gather all requirements and data
Owned product voice–audited and maintained consistency throughout
Wireframe quick UX concepts to socialize with developers for sizing
Socialize with stakeholder for initial feedback
Refine and bring into high fidelity to handoff to developers
Feature: Private, direct messaging
Problem Statement: Our users want more, personal conversation. Often, even with groups, some users feel alone. They want more conversation, more opportunity to talk to people going through the same issues as them. They want to talk, but often feel like they don’t know the person on the other end, and are hesitant to engage.
Goal: How might we allow users to send messages to each other in a safe environment and allow them to decline, report, or block any messages that are harmful. How do we allow users to learn more about each other without revealing too much personal detail? Ultimate goal: keep our users safe and create a space for users to talk to each other to foster relationships and connect even further with users who “get it.”
Solution:
Private messaging system that supports unlimited messaging between users on both desktop and native app
Badges to identify staff, moderators, and anyone else who is involved in a community
Safeguards to report harmful language or messages, block users, and decline messages from people they don’t know.
Feature: Polling
Problem Statement: In a community like The Mighty, finding people going through similar situations is priceless. The ability to relate to other users is why we’re all here. Our users are curious, just like all of us, on just how much they might relate to someone else. So much so, they crave data–sometimes for fun, sometimes for validation, sometimes for science.
Goal: How might we allow users to create and share a post in the form of a poll? How do we allow them to customize every aspect of the poll from question, to answers, to duration?
Solution:
First, a poll-creation solution for mobile web and native app had to be designed.
What question are you asking
What are the answers
How many choices can another use pick
How long will it run
Any more context to include in the poll?
Then, the post itself had to be implemented
User can vote, but also share, comment and interact with it like any other post on The Mighty
Users also are notified when they vote in a poll when the results are ready to be viewed, and likewise, users who post a poll are notified of results when it is finished.
